organic interaction & the apartments
first and foremost this community is a 98% join organically based community. we 100% encourage you to bring a character that has not been established for years. if you do want to bring in a character you've been playing for awhile we ask that you do not bring established lines with you unless they're roommates (apartments should hold no more than 3 people). make sure their character history is fresh and that any other old characters coming in will be nothing be strangers to them unless they live together. after some consideration from member concerns, we ask that you don't join with very established sls right off the bat. just beginning is fine, but we don't want to disrupt the organic flow we have going on. we fully understand that sometimes organic based communities don't work for some people. but we are trying to do something different here and this is the sort of community we'd like to run so we're sorry if you aren't a fan of things being done organically. we think there are some good established non-organic communities out there for you to try if that is your preference. thank you for understanding.

the opening of next door will be in tandem with the opening of the apartment complex it's based off of in austin, texas (indigo apts). please note that while the real apartment complex is located a little bit outside of austin, in the community it's located within austin around the hyde park area. the floorplans, amentities and photos are what you should be basing your ideas of the building off of.

the only "storyline" you can plan out and search for in pbads is your character's roommate(s). this roommate can be your character's sibling, ex, co-worker - anything you want! when you apply you need to make sure your character information lists your character's roommate and floor plan. we will have the floorplans organized by floors and assign people neighbors with first adds so that you know who your character lives next door to!

bring on the drama! as mentioned in the application post, next door is all about drama. we want to have fun. we'd love a community where people aren't in rush to get into an sl and settle in. have your character make genuine friendships, get together and have break ups, conflict and joy. we want characters that are friendly, kind, bitchy, slutty, prude, teases and well, complicated. you shouldn't be afraid to start a little drama while at next door. take nothing personally and keep it in character.

how to join
before setting up and joining applicants should know that next door is not a community that will accept every person that applies. rejections will happen. while we don't plan to be overly picky we will be looking at examples and journals to make sure you're a good fit for the community.

it is required that you have an ooc journal (no underscores or unnecessary numbers/letters) that contains both an in character and out of character post that are both backdated. your out of character post should have some details up about your character! basic details including their name, hometown, birthday, floorplan choice & roommate (n/a if they have no roommate), occupation and all of the essentials. it's highly recommended you put some facts up as well but that is not required at this time. if you are joining us from a previous community, your journal for the most part should be cleaned out for next door.

when you apply you should link us to your examples. simply show us your best! we highly suggest you provide your most recent examples. remember to double check that you've added us to your examples. do not c/p your examples into a comment or pm them to us. use the drop box only. whether you add us to a private custom in your journal or add us to an example journal is entirely up to you.

activity
after we accept you into next door you will have 72 hours to post an introduction in leasing. intros are not the same here, we now do intro surveys! please read that post before posting. just like most communities you are expected to reply to the comments left for you. not replying to comments within a reasonable amount of time is a good reason for us to assume you are doa.

update cycles run over one month. you will be expected to have fulfilled two activity requirements during that time. the first expectation is that you've posted an interactive post in your journal (with your flist updated) or in leasing. your intro will count as your interactive post when you first join. other options you have to fulfull your interactive activity will come in the form of being very active in community plot posts and other activities. your second requirement can be another interactive post or a traditional update. by traditional we mean it can be a narrative or anything else that involves writing. use the proper trigger warnings on posts containing sensitive subjects. we will be doing narrative challenges every month to inspire you and we do not expect you to write novels or essays. something quick and easy is acceptable!

keep up with updating your flist, commenting intro surveys and helping to give the community a friendly vibe. we will be doing removals more often than just the end of the month so keep an eye out for mandatory checks and when we will be going through flists to remove dead weight. we know sometimes keeping up with these things is tiresome but it keeps the community steady and easier for us to have less work to do at the end of the month. as we've learned from past communities, private events tend to leak out and leave people feeling left out, so if any plot post or anything is planned for more than a few people, try to make it a community wide option. every month we will have a mid-month activity check. if you can't be around and might miss it you need to let us know because we're not mind readers.

covid free, wire, etc
this community is an escape so we felt that it'd be best going au and removing covid from the table all together. we will try to do some fun plot posts for all that include the entire community for events that just aren't happening in the real world.

wire is allowed but not required. wire should be your secondary source of interaction. you should always put customs first, though we recognize that's not always as easy these days but we need this community to be welcoming to all. if you're not on the fp welcoming new members and only popping up to fulfill activity requirements or comment your character's friends posts and then flee, you will be removed at our discretion. if you're not up to helping us make this a community for people not on wire as well then next door is not for you.
